A set of memoirs by those who serve din the famous lancers of the Vistula Legion. This remarkable unit was originally formed in Italy and served as part of the Polish Legions there until, with the partial restoration of Poland, and the creation of the Duchy of Warsaw, it became a part of the French army and was sent to serve in Spain. It fought there for four years, most famously at Albuera, before elements went off to Russia in 1812. A much reduced body of lancers then struggled through the 1813 and 1814 campaigns.
This carefully curated volume of memoirs included accounts by Dobiecki, Wojciechowski and an anonymous lancer. It also includes a history of the legion, and its most remarkable achievements and feats, and its battle honours and rewards.
